It is always exciting to release a new book. It is also very terrifying!
The writing is the easy part it is all the stuff that comes afterward that is hard.
For example: did you know that in my genre of Historical Viking Romance I only need to sell 6 books to be in the top 10! I only need to sell 27 books to be #1! Yes! the statistics show that to be the case. Though they change frequently, it is ok to use those numbers as a starting point.
What I need to make it to #1 or in the top 10 is to get pre-orders. Then sales on the first day or few days after release. The other thing I need are ARC reviews posted on the day of release. This shows the Amazon algorithms I'm worth paying attention to.
Now, I don't like to do pre-orders because they don't often pay off and are a lot of work. Plus, I don't like to bug people with constant "order my book posts" but is part of the marketing game I have to play to be a self-published author.
In reality, being an indie author is a lot of self-promotion which is hard for me, but I have to do it to be successful.
